Connections Spotlight

The Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth received 3rd place in the non-profit category at NAU’s Civic Service Institute 2019 GEMS Volunteer Recognition Luncheon held April 11 at the High Country Conference Center in Flagstaff.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff received first place, with The Literacy Center receiving second place award at the third annual event.

NAZ Today ‘Teacher of the Week — Christine Sapio of Coconino High School

Teacher of the week, Christine Sapio, expresses to her students that science is fun. To accomplish this she likes to change up the curriculum and have her students participate, which are key components. Sapio said, that if students don’t have that “Eureka” moment that they won’t have anything to relate to. 12th grader, Kaleb Herrelko, said that he can always count on her to be energetic about what subject she is teaching.

In recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, CCC&Y will present the 2019 Annual Child Abuse Prevention Conference and Luncheon — “Healing Collective Trauma through Community Connections,” at Little America Hotel, Flagstaff on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
