Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces will present ‘Ofrenda 101’ and ‘Halloween vs. Día de los Muertos’ workshops at the Flagstaff Public Library on Oct. 5

FLAGSTAFF — Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces will present a “Ofrenda 101” workshop on from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday Oct. 5 at the Flagstaff Public Library, 300 W. Aspen Ave., Flagstaff.

OFRENDAS 101

Join us as we learn about the history of creating your own family ofrenda / altar and about the meaning behind the use of colored candles, marigold flowers, water, salt, and your loved ones favorite foods. The presentation will include the creation of an ofrenda!

HALLOWEEN vs DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS

Día de los Muertos is celebrated in México and many Latin America countries on November 2nd. Given that Halloween (October 31st), All Saints Day (November 1st) and All Souls Day (November 2nd) tumble into each other, the confusion between the celebrations is understandable. Come hear a brief history of these cultural traditions.

Construction work at Flagstaff Downtown Library

Construction work will take place at the downtown location of the Flagstaff City-Coconino County Public Library on Friday, September 3, 2021. The work will include the drilling of borings and will impact some of the walkways and the parking lot around the library.

Safety cones and barriers will be placed around affected areas during the evening of Thursday, September 2 and construction work will begin at approximately 9 a.m. on Friday, September 3. Library services and hours will not be impacted. The work will be completed within the same day, ending on Friday, September 3.

Flagstaff Library to begin limited reopening on June 1

The city of Flagstaff entered Phase 3 of its COVID-19 Reentry Plan on May 17. Under Phase 3, the city will begin a limited reopening of city facilities and amenities. Face coverings are required in city facilities. 

The Flagstaff Downtown Library will begin a limited reopening for patron access on June 1, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The East Flagstaff Community Library will begin a limited reopening for patron access on June 2, from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m., Monday and Wednesday, and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Friday and Saturday. 

City of Flagstaff announces Library Entry Survey and Invitation to Upload Images

Thank you, Flagstaff, for your input on the library entry re-design! 176 people responded to the survey. Some of the many themes that emerged include value in the natural environment, an interest in geologic and Native/Indigenous history, the importance of the library for children and families, the library as a gathering and meeting place, and a space that offers free amenities and builds community. This follow-up opportunity is to allow you to share images with the City as well! The tool allows for one photo at once, feel free to provide input several times.

District 2 Supervisor Liz Archuleta — Early Voting Starts Today!

Early voting for the August 4 Primary starts today. Over 44,600 early ballots are being mailed today. In-person early voting also started today. If you are interested in researching or registering to receive an early ballot, go to our Election Web Page and find all the information you will need. Important dates for the Primary Election are below for easy reference. You can also find information on how you can be a part of the process by becoming an Election Board Worker. Primary Election Day is August 4th!
