Pieces of Wheeler Park pedestrian bridge available for residents

FLAGSTAFF — Pieces of the Wheeler Park pedestrian bridge will be available for interested residents to pick-up after Jan. 2, 2018 in two-foot sections. Pick-up must be arranged by appointment and the quantity available will depend on the number of interested residents.

The pedestrian bridge that spans from Wheeler Park to the downtown Library parking lot was deemed unsafe In June 2018 after a structural assessment and was closed to public while city staff evaluated possible options. After reviewing the anticipated costs and life-span of a replacement or repair the city decided to remove the bridge. Additionally, removal of the bridge will be necessary for construction of the Rio de Flag flood control project.

To request a piece of the bridge contact Amy Hagin, Parks Manager, at ahagin@flagstaffaz.gov.
