FLAGSTAFF — The Flagstaff City Council voted to adopt the Flagstaff Carbon Neutrality Plan at their meeting on June 15, 2021. This plan will address the City Council’s goal of achieving community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030 (the goal was set on June 23, 2020). The Flagstaff Carbon Neutrality Plan is an evolving framework for action and was informed by input from conversations with over 2,600 community members as well as community and technical expertise.
The plan is a framework for action for the next nine years, with target areas spanning transportation, energy, consumption and waste, carbon dioxide removal, community resilience and equity. Achieving carbon neutrality will involve sustained commitment from all sectors of the Flagstaff community, creative collaboration with local, regional and federal partners, and transformation of Flagstaff’s systems to create a more connected, prosperous and healthier Flagstaff.
“This is an exciting milestone for the Flagstaff community” said Mayor Paul Deasy. “Flagstaff is taking a leadership role in climate action. The path to carbon neutrality will require big shifts in how we think, plan, act, and invest. The city is fully committed to leading by example and providing the Flagstaff community with wide variety of resources to join us on this path.”
