Dear Friend,
Dr. Jennifer Golbeck, a computer scientist who is an expert in social networks, social media, privacy and security on the web, will be the keynote speaker at the 44th Annual Economic Outlook Conference next month at Northern Arizona University.
Friday, Nov. 1, is the last day to secure your seat for the conference, which also will feature presentations by Michael Echols, founder and CEO of Max Cybersecurity in Washington, D.C., and a review of economic trends – including statewide and local analysis – by NAU professors Dr. Dennis Foster and Dr. Ronald Gunderson.
The event, presented by Alliance Bank of Arizona, begins with an 8 am breakfast at the High Country Conference Center, followed by the four presentations. You can register for the event here.
Golbeck gained fame for her TED Talk about “Why Social Media ‘Likes’ Say More Than You Might Think.” It highlighted how social media companies could predict behavior about users from pages they chose to like – including behaviors that had nothing to do with the content on the liked pages.
The talk, named one of the best TED Talks of 2014, also discussed how computer scientists could help users regain control over their data.
Bringing additional insights into the ever-changing worlds of cybersecurity and privacy will be Echols, who spent 10 years in critical infrastructure protection and cybersecurity at the Department of Homeland Security before resigning in 2016.
More recently, Echols authored four Forbes online articles and was featured on a PBS cybersecurity special called “Roadtrip Nation.”
