ECoNA COVID-19 Bulletin #9: Rapid Employment Training Grants

Good afternoon,

As we gradually move from crisis response to economic recovery, our region’s businesses are poised to reopen and a variety of entities are working to make sure that shift is both safe and successful.

To that end, here are some of the resources you may wish to consult during this time of transition.

#1. Rapid Employment Job Training Grant.  This week, the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) announced a financial program to reimburse certain costs of employers who hire and train employees over the next several months. Individual grants will be up to $1.3 million with per-employee reimbursement eligibility capped at $5,000. This is separate from the traditional Arizona Job Training Program and grants are to be awarded based on the extent that the hiring and training will effectively help mitigate unprecedented unemployment levels in the state.

Grants will benefit those employers hiring and training new employees between March 1 and Sept. 1 and are subject to fund availability. For more information or to apply, visit the ACA site here.

2. County webpage breaks down guidance for reopening by industry. Throughout the crisis and now this recovery period, Coconino County has served as a clearinghouse of information, including publishing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state Department of Health Services and Gov. Doug Ducey’s office on how to reopen various sectors of the economy. More guidelines are added on a continual basis, but the current list includes best practices for barbershops, casinos, dine-in eating establishments, gyms, places of worship, retail establishments, spas, camps, child care facilities and more. You can access it here.

3. City of Flagstaff Recovery Roundtable. Two weeks ago, the City launched a series of videos with City staffers, each covering a specific topic related to COVID-19 and the economic recovery. Topics have included the City’s phased re-entry plan, advocacy efforts and grant applications the City has made to benefit residents and how it plans to reopen park amenities. You can also submit questions you would like to see discussed. More information here

Have a wonderful rest of your week and please, stay informed and safe as we work towards a safe and sustainable recovery.
