Local community members and visitors from around the world enjoyed a beautiful fall weekend strolling around the courtyard, listening to local family histories or performances by mariachi performers and folkloric dancers during the 16th annual Celebraciones de la Gente, presented Oct. 26-27 at the Museum of Northern Arizona.
The event was presented by members of Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces in association with the museum.
Papel picado banners were hung across the courtyard with visitors learning about the history of Día de los Muertos by visiting the nearly two dozen altars / offendas, in the historic courtyard.
A record number of young people took part in decorating Sugar Skulls on the Patio, with audience members entertained by Ballet Folklorico de Colores de Flagstaff and Mariachi Sol Azteca from Tucson and Comparza Texalpan.
One of the highlights of the weekend event was the Courtyard After Dark, where the lights were dimmed and visitors had the opportunity to stroll around the candlelite altars.
