Coconino County Responds to Damaged Road in Doney Park Neighborhood

FLAGSTAFF — (On March 24) water flows compromised the culvert at the Rio de Flag crossing of Slayton Ranch Road. These river-like flows caused a portion of the roadway to collapse at this location.

At approximately 7 a.m., a Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) school bus drove over the area and broke through the roadway surface. According to FUSD officials, no students were on board the bus at the time and there were no injuries reported to the driver. Coconino County Public Works is assisting FUSD with the recovery of the school bus.

Public Works has closed Slayton Ranch Road indefinitely until evaluations of the damage and repairs can be completed. The public should avoid the area. Residents on the north side of the wash may use Neptune Rd. to access Silver Saddle Rd. Residents on the south side of the wash should use Townsend-Winona Rd.

After the past few days of increased precipitation, culverts and drainage throughout Coconino County have been running at or above capacity. Public Works crews are currently monitoring infrastructure throughout the county roads system.
