COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County has announced that Susan Brown has been promoted to Deputy County Manager.
Brown has over 25 years of experience working in state and local government. She joined Coconino County in 1998 in the Facilities Management Department as Property Manager during the County’s capital facilities construction program from 1996-2004. Her role evolved into strategic planning for the organization, and in 2009, Susan stepped into the role of Facilities Management Director, where she has served for the last 12 years.
Brown’s experience working with each department in the County has allowed her to develop a depth of knowledge of the services the County provides to the public, as well as build strong relationships within the County and its partners. She has worked extensively with the Coconino County Board of Supervisors, County Constitutional Officers, and municipalities across the County. Her focus has long been to provide a strong support framework for the services that are delivered to the public each day. She has been dedicated to achieving the County’s mission through integrity, professionalism, accountability, and the responsibility honoring the vast land and diverse cultures and people of Coconino County.
“I have had the pleasure of knowing Sue for 33 years. In that time, I’ve understood her to be savvy, caring, dynamic, and tenacious. Her heart of service has shaped and will continue to shape Coconino County,” said Steve Peru, County Manager.
Brown has a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Wayne State College in Nebraska and has been in the Master of Public Administration program at Northern Arizona University. She achieved a Certified Public Manager designation from the Bob Ramsey School of Government at Arizona State University in 2008. She began her career as a social worker with the Nebraska Department of Social Services in energy assistance and income and food security programs. Brown moved to Flagstaff over 30 years ago to attend graduate school at NAU and worked in tourism and property management before joining Coconino County in 1998.
Brown has been a member of the US Green Building Council Board of Directors (AZ Chapter), the Arizona Forward Northern Region Council, and the Flagstaff Arts Council Board of Directors and is a 2015 graduate of the Flagstaff Leadership Program. Sue will transition into the role.
