Coconino County Board of Supervisors Recognizes Winners of Elections Sticker Design Contest

COCONINO COUNTY — At their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 14 the Board took time to recognize two winners of the County-wide contest to design new “I Voted” and “Future Voter” stickers to be distributed at polling places and voting centers in 2024.

“With the generous support of the EAC Help America Vote College Program grant, the Coconino County Elections Department successfully organized a sticker design contest,” said Eslir Musta, Coconino County Elections Director. “This initiative not only deepened our partnership with Northern Arizona University but also motivated NAU students to join us at the polls, spreading these stickers far and wide. Furthermore, by integrating English, Navajo, Hopi, and Spanish languages into a single design, we celebrated and embraced the linguistic diversity of our community.”

Karen Javalera, a Northern Arizona University graphic design student created the winning ‘I Voted’ sticker. The sticker aims to encapsulate the essence of Coconino County by prominently featuring three of the iconic San Francisco Peaks framed by two majestic Ponderosa pines. Across the sticker, the phrase ‘I Voted’ is boldly displayed, accompanied by a checkmark, promoting the sense of accomplishment after completing a civic duty.

Mary Corcoran, a Flagstaff native, designed the winning ‘Future Voter’ sticker for youth under 18 to wear with decorations around the edge and the words “Future Voter” prominently displayed in a font that looks like markers.

“Congratulations to the winners, I am very impressed with each design,” said Jeronimo Vasquez, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “With the ‘I Voted’ sticker, I appreciate that different languages were included.”

Both stickers will be distributed at Coconino County’s Primary Election on July 30, 2024, and the General Election on November 5, 2024.
