Schools Day registration is open! Classroom and home school teachers are welcome to sign up for Schools Day, Friday September 1st, to attend the Coconino County Fair. Ignite your students’ curiosity and imagination with the traditions, talent, and experiences of the Fair. Students will be able to engage with the importance of agriculture and learn more about the talents and cultures of Coconino County. This is a wonderful opportunity for experiential learning that you won’t want to miss!

Check in is from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Gates open at 10:00 a.m.

Schools Day continues until 2:00 p.m.

We are so thankful to the Friends of Coconino County Parks, Coconino County Sustainability, Natural Chanel Design, community volunteers, and our own Parks and Recreation team for two productive weed pulls! Harrenburg Wash is a precious wetland area, whose restoration brings greater biodiversity and beauty to Kachina Village. Invasive weeds, like spotted knapweed, can out-compete local plants. Weed pulls like these are fun ways to give back to the area, enjoy the outdoors, and support local wildlife!

This past month was an exciting time for the Fort Tuthill Military Museumas the museum accepted its largest donation to date – $25,000 – when Retired Brig. Gen. Alberto Gonzalez of the 158^th Regiment, also known as the Arizona Bushmasters, gave up his personal sidearm pistol to benefit the museum. Gonzalez was allowed to purchase the sidearm when he retired in 2013 and along with the sidearm included a General Officers belt, holster, spare magazine and two military challenge coins. The exchange took place on Saturday, July 22^nd at Old World Guns in Camp Verde where Bobby Lall presented the $25,000 check to museum President, James Denton accepting on behalf of James Warbasse, grandson of General Tuthill and the museum board of directors.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sundays throughout the summer months. Volunteers are needed to help facilitate tours.

Have you always wanted to learn how to can? Parks and Recreation is offering the Basics of Canning, taught by Master Gardener, Willa McAuliffe. You will learn a brief history of canning, what tools you need to can, and canning safety practices. Afterwards, you will see the process unfold and be able to ask questions. She also provides you with notes and recipes to send you on your way. You don’t want to miss this great opportunity!

This class will be at Fort Tuthill County Park in the Mess Hall
