Flagstaff seeks applications for Community Stakeholder Committee on reclaimed water

FLAGSTAFF — The city of Flagstaff Water Services Division is assembling a volunteer committee on reclaimed water. Only one-third of all reclaimed water generated each year is committed for our current customers. The Water Services Division is faced with about seven options for the remaining, uncommitted supply; input from the community is needed to narrow the options down to three.

Water Resources Manager Erin Young, explains that intentional management of the city’s reclaimed water is essential to a sustainable community. “This is a source of water that can be recycled back into the community or recycled back to the aquifer to replenish our pumping of groundwater. We must make mindful and informed decisions with our community goals and values in mind.” All water processed in the dry summer months is allocated to outdoor water demands. The stakeholder committee will provide their opinions on how reclaimed water is managed the other nine months of the year.

All residents of Flagstaff are encouraged to apply, regardless of their knowledge of reclaimed water. The announcement and application can be found at www.flagstaffaz.gov/WaterServices or you can call Erin Young at (928) 213-2405 for more information. Water services will choose 10 from the application pool that together represent a cross-section of the Flagstaff community.
