Lane closures for Street Lighting for Enhancing Dark Skies fixture installation in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF — Lane closures for Street Lighting for Enhancing Dark Skies fixture installation

Locations and dates:

  • Butler Avenue, from Milton Road to Ponderosa Parkway (March 22 – April 6)
  • Route 66, from First Street to Fourth Street (April 9 – April 15)
  • Fourth Street, from Route 66 to Soliere Avenue (April 9 – April 15)
  • Intersection of Cedar Avenue and West Street (April 9 – April 15)

Details: The City of Flagstaff will conduct single lane closures to install test fixtures as part of the Street Lighting for Enhancing Dark Skies (SLEDS) project. This project will install five new light-emitting diode/hybrid light-emitting diode (LED/HLED) test fixtures in four locations throughout the city: Butler Avenue, the intersection at Fourth Street and Route 66, the Cheshire neighborhood (this area will not require lane closures) and the intersection of Cedar Avenue and West Street. In these locations the City will replace old low-pressure sodium/high-pressure sodium (LPS/HPS) fixtures with LED/HLED fixtures. The current LPS/HPS fixtures will not be supported after July 2019.

The SLEDS project aims to maintain appropriate lighting levels which do not adversely affect the City’s dark sky natural resource or the missions of the Lowell Observatory and the U.S. Naval Observatory.
